how it works
E-learning can be seen as a combination of three components: methodology, learning management system and learning materials: courses, tests, trainings etc. Any company that has implemented an e-learning systems has these three components. Let’s discuss each of them.
Methodology defines format of learning, proportion between conventional training and e-learning, subject and content requirements as well as describes pedagogical principles that learning is based on. Every client has its own goals and challenges, therefore, learning methodologymust be adapted. Decrease of learning costs, shortening personnel initial training time or to improvement of client service need different learning methodology.
Learning management system (LMS) is a technological platform that stores learing materials, provides safe access to them on internet, and helps manage the learning process making assigning of courses, testing, and controlling results easier and faster. Most advanced systems are usulally compatible with other IT systems like HR management modules.
E-course can be compared to a text book in a school library: it is structured material meant for solving a particular problem that covers certain topic. Efficiency of an e-course can considerably surpass that of traditional text material. Animation, simulation of programs, interactive dialogs and other interactive learning methods allow to develop skills and knowledge in areas where text books do not provide needed results.
Sphere of e-course development has few important directions: instructional design (methodology of maximizing the effectiveness, efficiency and appeal of learning), adaptive learning (methods allowing to adapt learning intensity to the level of knowledge of a particular student) as well as methods of knowledge formalization and course development by client employees.
